Mission:
To help build better communities by strengthening families.
Goals:
To develop programs that increase the ability of
families to successfully nurture their children and meet family needs;
to provide a coordinated system of services for families by developing
and maintaining successful linkages with neighborhood service providers
and schools; to develop strategies to enhance the ability of community
leaders to work together to address neighborhood concerns and issues.
Services:
- Parents As Teachers (PAT) – empowering parents to see themselves as the first and most important teachers of their children (ages 0-3)
- Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) – 30 week program of home instruction for children ages 3-5; increasing school preparedness, basic literacy, and parent involvement; HIPPY USA accreditation, Stellar Program status.
- Los Padres/Las Madres – motivating parents, especially fathers, to become actively involved in their children’s schooling
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) – classes for children ages 1-8 years-old to increase school preparedness and basic literacy
- English as a Second Language (ESL) – Classes for adults (ages 17+) that contribute to their English language acquisition and their acculturation. Ten locations in Denver, and 1 offsite in Aurora.
- GED in Spanish – classes for adults (ages 17+) that increase their basic education and help prepare them to earn their high school equivalency diploma. There are two classes with a 14 week session, or one class with a 12 week session.
- Introduction to Spanish Classes – Focusing on learner’s basic
Spanish conversational skills. There is a cost for the class.
Classes are free; free childcare is provided.
Focus Points has volunteer positions for teachers
(of adults and children), childcare providers, people with computer
skills, and students or others who want to gain administrative
expertise.
